Rachel was the daughter of James Albert Smith and Harriet Mariah Vincent. Her family moved to Mercer while she was a young girl and this is where she was to meet her future husband William Daniels.
She often spoke of the dances they attended and the people she knew. She talked of sitting on the hill above Mercur with her good friend Glenna Poulson as they watched the town burn to the ground. The family moved back to Provo until the town was rebuilt and then returned as her father was a blacksmith for the mining company.
Her only sister had died at birth and she readily admitted that she was spoiled by her brother's because she was the only girl.
She married Bill Daniels on Mar 16, 1912 and became the mother of 8 children.
After her mother died in 1936 she and her family went to live with her father in his home where she stayed until her children were grown. By this time both her husband and father had passed away and the old home on Center Street was sold. The Wonder Bread Bakery now stands on the old home site.
After her home was sold she moved to Oregon where she lived most of the time with her daughter Fawn, traveling to California and Utah to stay several months at a time with her other children.
She enjoyed traveling and went on many trips with her friend Glenna, who lived in Sacramento. They traveled many times to Nevada to see the shows,to the Black Hills of South Dakota and to Alaska.
She was alert and active until about two years before her death and enjoyed visits from her friends and family.
