Major League Baseball Player. Born Percival Wheritt Werden in St. Louis, Missouri, he was a right handed pitcher making his debut for the St. Louis Maroons on April 24, 1884. He only pitched for one season but helped the St. Louis Maroons win the first and only Union Association pennant. Due an arm injury, he concluded his one season as a pitcher with a record of 12 wins, 1 loss, 26 complete games, 2 shutouts, 51 strikeouts and a 1.97 For the next six seasons, he played as a first baseman with the Washington Senators 1888, Toledo Maumees 1890, Baltimore Orioles 1891, St. Louis Browns (1892-93) and Louisville Colonels 1897. He finished career with a record of 774 hits, 444 runs scored, 26 homeruns, 439 runs batted in, a .282 batting average and led the National League triples in 1893. He remained in baseball playing at the Minor League level and retired with .341 batting average plus five home run titles. He died at age 68 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
