James Keith Garrett, 84, of Rigby, died Sunday, September 8, 2013, at his home.

He was born in Poplar, Idaho, in September of 1929 to James Hyrum Garrett and Stella Killian Garrett. He was raised and attended schools in Lewisville, graduating from Midway High School in 1947. He attended a trade school in Denver Colorado and worked there until joining the US Air Force in 1950. He married Mary Hammon in March of 1952; they live in Texas until he was discharged from the Air Force in 1953. They then moved to Denver where they lived for 10 years before returning to Idaho in 1964.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in many positions. He and his wife served a mission at the Cove Fort Historical Site in Utah. He loved to work and serve others and he enjoyed playing pinochle with his brothers and sisters. He was fond of the outdoors, he loved fishing, traveling the back roads and camping with his family. He and his wife square danced with the Idaho Falls Promenade's for many years, he served as Vice President, then as President.

He is survived by his wife, Mary of Rigby, daughter, Lorraine (Mike) Fisher, of Ammon, sons, Randy (Karen) Garrett, of West Valley, Utah, Stan (Suzanne) Garrett, of Rigby, sister, Helen Barry, of Lehi, Utah, 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a grandson, Jared Fisher.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, Sept 16, 2013 at the Rigby 12th Ward LDS Chapel, with Bishop Ron Young officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Sunday, September 15, 2013 at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby, and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery, services are under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
