Vadna Marguerite Baker
Vadna Marguerite Baker, 90, of Lewiston and formerly of Caldwell, died Monday Feb. 5, 1996, of cancer in a Lewiston care center.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday Feb. 19, at Memorial Park Baptist Church, Caldwell. The Rev. Ralph A. Lawrence a United Methodist minister ret. will officiate. A funeral service was also held on Monday Feb. 12, at First United Methodist Church, Lewiston. Arrangements are under the direction of Pine Hills Funeral Chapel, Orofino.
Marguerite was born Jan. 16, 1906 at Palco, Kan. to Avin Eugene and Mary Josephine Zehner Harper. Her family moved to Idaho and she attended grade school in Roswell graduated from Caldwell High School in 1923 and from the College of Idaho in 1927.
She married Marvin Rader Baker on June 30, 1929 at Caldwell. From 1929 to 1931 she taught school at Gifford, Idaho. They lived at Reubens, Idaho before moving to Farmington and Oakville, Wash. and then Eagle, Idaho and Caldwell. They owned a grocery store in Caldwell for a few years. They lived at Caldwell until 1960 when they moved to Santa Barbara, Calif. In 1963 they returned to Idaho. Her husband retired from teaching at Murtaugh, Idaho in the early 1970s.
Marguerite was actively involved in their church wherever they lived and sang with the church choirs. She played the piano and taught Sunday school classes.
She enjoyed camping with her husband and traveling in their recreational vehicle.
Survivors include her husband Marvin of Lewiston three sons, Ronald Eugene Baker and Kenneth Frank Baker both of Lewiston and Duane Ellis Baker of Twain-Harte, Calif., one daughter, Marlene Frances Michael of Orofino, 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
