STORM LAKE BUENA VISTA VIDETTE - Jul 3, 1914 - Henry Petit was born 8eptember 4, 1855, in Mexico, Oswego county, New York, and died June 25, 1914, at Nisland, South Dakota.

He came with his parents to Buena Vista county, Iowa, in 1882 and was married to Miss Mary Groom, November 27, 1883. Soon after his marriage he united with the Methodist church of which he has been a faithful member ever since. Mr. and Mrs. Petit are the parents of one child, Ray, who now is married and lives at Newell, South Dakota, and who is left to comfort his mother in her loss.

They lived in Storm Lake until some eight years ago when they went to Sioux Falls and later to Dakota where they took up a homestead on which they have proved up. Mr. Pettit was in delicate health for some time but gained in strength and health until he was taken sick on Saturday, June 20, and on Wednesday following an operation was performed on him. He was too ill to be taken to the hospital and survived the operation only a few hours. He was operated upon for rupture of the bladder.

The body was brought here Saturday and taken to the home of his brother-in-law, Mr. Wesley Groom where funeral services were conducted by Rev. Johnson at two o'clock Sunday and at the M.E. church at 2:30 and the body laid to rest in the Storm Lake cemetery.

In addition to the wife and son there are left to mourn the loss; two sisters Ellen of Storm Lake, and Emma of Hollister, Idaho; and two brothers, Charles of Howard, S.D., and Joseph of Park Rapids, Minn.

Mr. and Mrs. Archie Groom and Mr. Charley Petit attended the funeral services here.

Mr. Petit was one of the men, of whom all say "He was a good man." He took his obligations in him seriously and kept the spirit as well as the letter of the law of the church and God. He and his wife were the founders of a church in Nisland and also of a Sunday School.
