February 26 - Little Rock - The Hon. Thomas Fletcher, of Lincoln County, died in this city after a short illness. He was born in Tennessee, removed to Mississippi, where he became circuit judge; afterward he came to Arkansas, and was for several years a state senator, and for two terms as president of the senate. At the time of his death, he was the leading candidate for secretary of state. The flags on the public buildings are at half mast, and the executive offices and courts will be closed tomorrow to respect his memory. (from the Chicago Tribune - 1880) Obituary provided by Paul V. Isbell.

I am actually not certain if the Thomas Fletcher who is buried here is the one who was sheriff and acting governor. Thomas H. Fletcher also has a marker in Oakland Cemetery, and he was definitely the one who was sheriff.
