Dr. Faith Lilly Jackson Dr. Faith Lilly Jackson, 77, Bowling Green, passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2013. Born in Painesville, Ohio on March 5,1936 to Fredilla and Clarence Lilly, Dr. Jackson lived a life full of family, faith, and friends and leaves many to celebrate her amazing and wonderful life. She is survived by her four children: Carlos Anderson Jackson II of Bull's Head, AZ.; Dr. Judith Jackson May (Dr. Eugene T.W. Sanders) of Bowling Green; Constance Michele Grieger, Boise, ID; and Patricia Luann (Brian) Nevils, Winnie, TX; and ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild; Jennifer, Jacquelyn, and Alicia May; Tara, Carl, Alexandra, Kurt, and Jon Grieger; Jessica Nevils; Parker Anderson Jackson; and great granddaughter Chiann May. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Carlos Anderson Jackson; her parents; sisters, Carol Sullivan, Alma Cox, Joyce Lyons and brother Richard A. Lilly. This gracious lady will be missed. Dr. Jackson spent nearly 40 years of her life and career connected to Bowling Green State University. She arrived at BGSU and met future husband Carlos A. Jackson and they married in 1955. Together, they were among the early pioneers of African American families to reside in Bowling Green. She earned three degrees; Bachelor of Science in Speech Pathology/Audiology in 1958, Master's Degree in 1959, and Doctor of Philosophy in 1987. Her husband, Carlos Anderson Jackson, the first African American football coach at BGSU, died suddenly in 1974 playing basketball in Anderson Arena. Dr. Jackson served as a BGSU Teaching Fellow in 1968, an Assistant Professor in 1973 and Associate Professor in 1979. She retired as an Associate Professor Emeritus in 1993. Dr. Jackson's tenure at BGSU was active and varied, serving as Assistant Director of the School of Communication Disorders, Student Teacher Coordinator, and Advisor. She also served on many BGSU committees including Faculty Senate, Alumni Board of Trustees, Intercollegiate Athletics Advisory Committee, General Education Task Force, and Education Redesign Committee. Professionally, during her career, she was an active member of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association and the Ohio Speech & Hearing Association. Having earned her Certification of Clinical Competence, she served in a consultant capacity to the State of Ohio Department of Health, Pediatrics & Otolaryngology Clinics. Additionally, she was a member of National Black Association of Speech-Language-Hearing Pathologists, Speech Communication Association, Northwest Ohio Speech & Hearing Association, National Leadership Honorary Society, and a member of Beta Tau Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa and Alpha Lambda Delta. In her early career, in the 1960's as a speech therapist, she served in local districts such as Mohawk Local in Sycamore, Ohio. Professionally, her research agenda included the impact of dialectal variations on societal norms, the relationship between dialectal patterns and racial bias, and the variables associated with gender, race and language acquisition. She presented papers at national and international conferences and published in scholarly journals such as the Ohio Speech and Hearing Journal. As an active local citizen, she served on the City of Bowling Green Planning Committee and the Parks and Recreation Board and was the first African American to serve on the Board of Trustees at Lakeland Community College in Lake County, Ohio. She served as spokesperson for the American Association of Retired Persons, and was featured on the cover of Best of Health Magazine. Upon retirement from BGSU, she relocated to Mentor, Ohio and was a very active member of Union Congregational Church, where she served as treasurer for many years. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at 11:00 am at St. Mark's Lutheran Church at 315 South College Drive, Bowling Green, Ohio. The family will receive guests from 10:00 until the service time. Rev. Roderick Coffee will officiate. Burial will be in Fountain Cemetery Fostoria, Ohio. Arrangements are being handled by DUNN FUNERAL HOME located in the Historical District of Bowling Green at 408 W.
