Attorney Effingham C. Evarts, 66, of Windsor, died on Sunday at the Windsor Hospital.

He was the son of Sherman and Alice H. (Cook) Evarts. He attended St. Paul's Preparatory School, graduated from Yale in 1919 and from Harvard Law School in 1923. He practiced in New York City until he came to Windsor in 1947.

He was a veteran of World War I and was a member of the Windsor Legion Post. His wife, the former Mary Lothrup, died in 1956.

He was survived by a son, Alex, a sister, Mrs. Gilbert Streeten and three brothers; John, Roger and Prescott.
