James W. Burnes Jr., 60, of Springfield died Wednesday at Memorial Medical Center.

He was born May 13, 1935, in Widner, Ark., the son of James W. Sr. and Marianna Smith Burnes.

Mr. Burnes attended Springfield schools.

He formerly worked for the city of Springfield and Local No. 477, Laborers International Union.

He was a member of Capital City Church of God and Finley Singers Gospel Group for 10 years.

Survivors: a daughter, LaDonna Burnes of Springfield; six sisters, Marianna Mills, Pearl Childress, Louise Jackson, Delores Jordan and LaVern Burnes-Hayes, all of Springfield, and Olivia Burnes of Cahokia; five brothers, Samuel L. Holmes of Paso Robles, Calif., Sylvester Holmes, Odel Burnes, Melvin Burnes and Goldman Burnes, all of Springfield; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services: noon Saturday, Capital City Church of God, the Rev. Shaughneysy Small officiating.
Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery. W.W. White-Pettiford Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
