World War II German Army General. He was one of the lead conspirators in the German resistance against Nazi Germany dictator Adolph Hitler, and in the plot to kill Hitler on July 20, 1944. He was the main initiator and planner of the coup to take over the German government after Hitler's assassination. When it became known that Hitler had survived, Olbricht and the other leaders at Army Headquarters were arrested and shot just after midnight, in the courtyard of the headquarters on Bendlerstrasse in Berlin.
