Lockjaw Causes Death of Child
Funeral for Ilene Basquin Held at Gospel Hall Here Sunday Afternoon. Burial in Oakland

Mildred, nine year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Basquin, of Independence, died Friday afternoon, July 14, 1933, at the People's hospital after a brief illness of lockjaw. The child stepped on a rusty nail two weeks ago, and after a few days this injury seemed to have healed, with no ill effects. A few days previous to her death the child became desperately ill with lock jaw. Mr. and Mrs. Basquin formerly resided in Manchester, and for the last two years have been residents of Independence. The remains of the child were brought to the home of the mother's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. E. Smith in North Manchester, and funeral services held from the Gospel hall Sunday afternoon. Oliver Smith of Waterloo had charge of the services. Burial was made in Oakland cemetery. The parents have the profound sympathy of many friends in the sorrow which the daughter's death has brought to them.
