Lou Ann Larsen Thurgood, age 79, was born on May 26, 1934, and passed away on September 6, 2013, only from mortality, but not from eternity. Heaven has gained a noble spirit. Lou Ann was a mother of four sons and one daughter, a grandmother of sixteen, and a great-grandmother of four. Lou Ann left a beautiful and loyal legacy. Lou Ann and her husband, Dr. Blair Walton Thurgood, were married for 57 special years. Their marriage was sealed for eternity on March 12, 1956 in the Logan Utah Temple, a Holy Temple of God. Lou Ann was the only daughter of Harvey Martin Larsen and Annie May Shaw. Lou Ann had five brothers. Graduating in 1952, Lou Ann was an "A" student, a member of the PEP Club and played the French horn in band at Weber High School in Ogden UT. Lou Ann again excelled in nursing school at Weber College, the University of Utah, and Dee Memorial Hospital where she was president of her class. Lou Ann loved serving others through her work as a registered pediatric nurse. In 2012 Lou Ann was able to attend her 60th high school and 57th nursing school reunions in spite of her expanding illnesses. Lou Ann was not a quitter. Lou Ann served many others through her numerous acts of service as a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Lou Ann enjoyed worshipping her Savior by playing sacred hymns on the piano. Lou Ann taught Seminary classes to church youth for four years. Lou Ann completed three church missions with her husband. In their first mission, they worked among the Navajo Native Americans. For their next mission, they served in the Albuquerque LDS Temple. For their third mission they worked at the Albuquerque LDS Storehouse, spending many hours helping the poor and needy. Lou Ann's life was full of love given to family, numerous friends, patients, students and neighbors. Lou Ann had an adventurous spirit and loved exploring the rural areas of New Mexico. Lou Ann loved hiking and enjoying the great outdoors. One star in the cosmos is named after her, a loving gift from her husband. During her life, Lou Ann was privileged to travel to many places on this Earth including Australia, New Zealand, Egypt, China, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Mexico, Israel, Greece, Turkey, France, Germany, Spain, and most of the states in the United States of America with her husband. Lou Ann loved the beauty and peace she experienced during her numerous visits to Kauai, Hawaii and Pagosa Springs, Colorado, but she especially delighted in visiting the homes of her family. Lou Ann is survived by her husband, Dr. Blair Walton Thurgood, her children, Lynn B. Thurgood and Donna, Scot L. Thurgood and Jeannine, Brad L. Thurgood and Melissa, Cindy Lou Budge and Kent and Michael J. Thurgood and Laura and her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
