Lucinda L. Borgwardt, age 78, of 12608 Newton Road, Valders, died Saturday, January 20, 2001, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 23, 2001, at Salem Ebenezer Reformed Church, Newton. Rev. Donald R. Vance will officiate, with burial at the church cemetery.
Lucinda was born February 18, 1922, in the township of Newton, Manitowoc County, daughter of the late Otto and Esther Stock Dill. She grew up in the Newton area and was a 1940 graduate of Lincoln High School. In 1942 she graduated from the Manitowoc County Teachers' College, and taught for five years at Liberty Bell and Osman elementary schools.
On June 1, 1946, she married Elroy Borgwardt at Salem Ebenezer Reformed Church, with Rev. K.J. Stuebbe officiating. She and Elroy farmed at rural Valders until their retirement. He preceded her in death on August 22, 1998.
She was a lifetime member of Salem Ebenezer Reformed Church and a member of its Adult Bible Class, Choir, and Ladies Aid, having served as its president for nine years. She was also a dedicated Sunday School teacher for over 30 years. She was a member of the Angel Association of the Manitowoc Health Care Center and most recently worked as a volunteer at the switchboard. In 1986 she was ladies' program chairperson for the National Holstein Convention, when it was held in Wisconsin.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Peggy Borgwardt, William and Judy Borgwardt, all of rural Valders; one daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Dr. Randy Argall, Jamestown, N.D.; seven grandchildren: Julie Borgwardt, Greenville, Wi.; Jennifer and Shane Burton, Valders; Scott and Elizabeth Borgwardt, Muwonago; Todd and Susan Borgwardt, Valders; Samuel Argall, Iowa City, Iowa; Becky Borgwardt, Manitowoc; Lisa and Austin Mautz, Brookfield; two great-grandchildren, Kayla and Conner Burton, Valders; one brother and sisters-in-law, Wilbert and Shirley Dill, Newton; one stepbrother and step-sister-in-law, Lynn and LaVonne Dill of Mott, N.D.; one stepsister, Ruth Smith, Alameda, Calif.; three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law; Esther Commings, Manitowoc; Ida and Martin Luebke, Valders; Eunice and Bernard Wellner, Manitowoc; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Harold and Laurain Borgwardt, Newton, and Walter and Doris Borgwardt, St. Nazianz. She is also survived by two cousins who were her very close friends. Eleanor Zoerb, Manitowoc, and Ellie Stuebbe, Valders; three aunts: Mathilda Stock, Sheboygan; Elda Stock, Manitowoc; and Dagna Dill, Milwaukee; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was also preceded in death by an infant brother, Erwin, her stepfather, Albert Dill, and three brothers-in-law; John Borwardt, Carl Borgwardt and Willard Commings.
