Died in this city (Eau Claire, WI.) Nov. 5 1873 of erysipilis, J.W. Brackett of Bloomington, Grant co. WI. aged 73 yrs 8 mos. native of N.H. born Lancaster yr. 1800. Emigrated to Geauga co. Ohio, resided there until removing to Wisconsin locating at the town of Brookfield, now in Waukesha county. Mr. Brackett was a man of good ability holding during his life several prominent positions. He was a Judge of Geauga co. Ohio while residing there, and a member of the 1st Wi. Legislature in 1848. A Democrat, he left that party and gave signal aid to the Organized Free Soil Party. He moved to Grant county where he has since resided, a member of the Grant co. Bar and a lawyer. He owned a farm near Bloomington. With his wife he left there on Oct. 27 to visit his son James M Brackett of Eau Claire where he arrived Oct. 28. Taken sick on the road, died on 5 November. Kind husband, indulgent father, upright and honorable course in his life, esteemed friendship of all with whom he came in contact. Pioneer of Grant co., very much respected as a citizen.
