Mrs. Maggie Capes Mitchell Taylor
April 14, 1915 - September 7, 2013

Maggie Capes Mitchell Taylor, age 98, of McDonough, GA passed away September 7, 2013 at her home in McDonough, GA. She was born April 14, 1915 in Newton County, Georgia to the late Elbert Jefferson and Mamie Chapman Capes. Maggie courageously fought cancer for the last year. We know because of her faith she has won her battle and is now receiving her reward in Heaven. She was preceded in death by her husband Dewey W. Mitchell in 1970 and her second husband, Jesse L. Taylor in 1988.

Maggie was part of the Great Generation that has survived many hardships including the Great Depression, all of which helped mold her into the strong, determined, yet compassionate person she was. Maggie was a true Proverbs 31 woman. She was a testimony for Jesus to her family and everyone she came in contact with. Maggie was an active member and the oldest member of the church she loved, Zion Baptist Church in Covington, GA. She served the Lord there by helping start the Emmanuel Sunday School Class and the Jubilee Choir. She also served on many committees and taught children and youth. Maggie also loved being outside gardening, planting flowers and fishing. She was known for her cooking, canning and sharing with others.

Maggie was an important part of the lives of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Survivors include children Doug and Lana Mitchell Bailey of Conyers and Dwight and Kay Mitchell Hodges of McDonough; grandchildren Scott and Liz Bailey, Shane Bailey, Slade Bailey, Kale and Debbie Hodges, Ryan and Mary Pat Hodges and Chris and Lauren Hodges Davis. Maggie is also survived by great grandchildren Amanda Chaffin, Chris Bailey, Annabelle Hodges, Cole Hodges, Brant Hodges, Bo Hodges, Wyatt Hodges, Owen Hodges, Cayle Davis, Caitlin Davis and Cooper Davis and great-great grandchildren Madison Chaffin and Ryan Underwood. Maggie also has two sisters she is leaving behind, Kathleen Capes Hooper and Sara Capes Mote and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

Brothers and sisters that preceded her in death are Emory Capes, John Zack Capes, JC Capes, Oliver Capes, Hulon Capes, Sam Capes, Louise Capes Burke and Peggy Capes Boyd.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00pm on September 9, 2013 at Zion Baptist Church in Covington, GA. The ceremony will be officiated by Pastor Grant Whittenbarger and Rev. Reese Sanders along with Rev. Wayne Rickard and Rev. Terry Sampson. Interment will be at Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Covington, GA. The family will receive friends at Wheeler Funeral Home on September 8, 2013 from 3:00 – 5:00pm and prior to the service on September 9th at Zion Baptist Church at 2:00pm.

Donations may be made in Mrs. Taylor's name to Zion Baptist Church building fund.
