Lorenzo Thomas December 24, 1952 - August 29, 2004 PHENIX CITY, AL - Mr. Lorenzo "Ren" Thomas, 51, of 203 15th Avenue South, Phenix City, died Sunday, Aug. 29, at The Medical Center Hospital. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at Nichols Chapel A.M.E. Church in Phenix City with Dr. Raymond Cochran officiating. Burial will follow in Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, Fort Mitchell, Ala., according to Taylor Funeral Home, Phenix City. Visitation is today from noon until 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Thomas was born Dec. 24, 1952 in Columbus, the son of Beulah Gilliam of Phenix City and the late James Hunter. A 1971 graduate of Central High School, he attended Southern Illinois College. Mr. Thomas served in the U.S. Air Force, and was a Federal Government Prison Officer. He was a member of Nichols Chapel A.M.E. Church in Phenix City. He will never be forgotten by his loving and devoted mother, Beulah Gilliam of Phenix City; three sons, Lorenzo Quinton Thomas of Montgomery, Ala., John Anthony Thomas of Miami, Fla., and Paris (Vanessa) Watkins of Phenix City; two brothers, Alphonso (Michelle) Thomas of Miami and Gregory Hunter of Phenix City; three sisters, Theresa Thomas and Angela Deniece Jackson, both of Columbus, and Dorse (Gerald) Richardson of Phenix City; grandfather, Roosevelt Kimp; two aunts, Levonia (Rev. John) Cochran of Birmingham, Ala., and Ruthie Sellers of Chicago, Ill.; four uncles, Charlie (Luella) Thomas and Sidney Gillis, both of Detroit, Mich., Arthur Hunter of Chicago, Ill., and Willie Hunter of Columbus; three grandchildren, Joshua Thomas of Tuskegee, Ala., Nesfayia and Portia Watkins, both of Phenix City; a devoted and loving cousin, Christine Beauford Carter of Huntsville, Ala.; step mother, Mildred Hunter; and a host of other loving relatives and caring friends.
