A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. A reception will follow the graveside service at the Hanes-Lineberry Sedge-field Chapel, located on the cemetery grounds.
Born in Guilford County to the late Thomas and Pearl Moore, Mrs. Southern was of the Baptist faith. She fostered more than fifty children through the years and loved each and every one of them. While fostering those children, she enjoyed raising large gardens to help feed them all. She had a passion for sewing and was still sewing up until three weeks before her death. The number of quilts she sewed and shared with others is countless. Grace was a wonderful storyteller and her ability to remember the dates and the times the stories took place in her life was simply uncanny. She was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her. We all look forward to seeing her again and listening to her as we are sure she will still be telling her stories. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Southern; son, Garry Southern; three brothers; and two sisters.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter-in-law, Janis Southern; granddaughter, Sonya Southern; and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m. at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm St. Chapel, one hour before going to the cemetery for the graveside service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Rockingham County, 2150 N. Carolina 65, Rockingham, NC 27320.
