Johnny James Gibson Sr., 64 years of age, departed this life on Thursday, September 5th, 2013 at his residence.

He was born on Christmas Day, December 25th, 1948 in Somerset, Kentucky, son of Elaine Morrow Gibson and the late Russell Irvin Gibson. He was a six year United States Navy Veteran, who was stationed on the USS Sam Rayburn Submarine during the Vietnam War. He loved playing the guitar, hunting Indian Relics, hunting & fishing, and loved his family. He was of the Baptist faith and retired from the Kentucky State Highway Department as a Highway Engineer.

He was survived by his mother, Elaine Gibson; one son, Johnny Gibson II; two daughters, Shondra (and Jeff) Casada and Christina Miller Gibson (and Corey Dick); one brother, Nathan Gibson; one sister, Marilyn Nyros; five grandchildren, Lucas Gibson, Magnolia Gibson, Katarina Gibson, Zackary Casada, and Katie Casada; two former wives, Patricia Gibson and Pamela Sue Miller; and a host of other family and friends who mourn his passing.

He was preceded in death by his father, Russell Irvin Gibson; and four brothers, Don Gibson, Danny Gibson, Ted Gibson, and Ernest Gibson.

Visitations were held on Sunday, September 8th, 2013 after 5:00 p.m. at the Lake Cumberland Funeral Home in Somerset, Kentucky.

Graveside services were held on Monday, September 9th, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mill Springs National Cemetery in Nancy, Kentucky with Bro. Perry Dobbs officiating.

Military Honors were conducted by the American Legion Post No#38.
