Robert A. Bobo, 98, of Chillicothe, passed away 6 p.m. Thursday, September 5, 2013 in Adena Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his children, following a brief illness.

He was born May 22, 1915, in Athens County, to the late Ray D. and Mary "Mamie" Angell Bobo. On March 27, 1937, he married the former Anna Catherine Chappell, who preceded him in death on May 13, 2002.

Surviving are a son, Phillip Bobo, of Chillicothe; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Fred Seymour, of Chillicothe; a daughter-in-law, Sue Bobo, of Powell, OH; grandchildren, Scott (Peggy) Edwards, of Franklin, TN, Cindy Rhoads, of Gahanna, Rob Bobo, Laura (Anthony) Kleon, both of Powell, OH, Krin (Tim) Woodbridge, Kelli (Tom) Kitchen, both of Chillicothe, Kara (Ryan) Stump, of Kingston, Brad Seymour and Gabe Seymour, both of Chillicothe; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Kristy Edwards, Matthew and Andrew Rhoads, Christian and Hanna Bobo, Anthony and Arrianna Kleon, Taylor and Brady Woodbridge, and Kellen Kitchen; a brother, Richard Bobo, of Athens; many nieces and nephews; and his caregiver, Amanda Stokes. He was predeceased by a son, Gary Bobo; a daughter-in-law, Janie Bobo; and brothers, Joe and Mark Bobo.

Robert was a graduate of Shade High School (Athens Co, Ohio) and Ohio University. He was a life-long educator. He began his teaching career at a small Athens County School, Luhrig, in 1934. He later was employed by Shade High School where he was a teacher, principal, basketball, baseball and track coach.

In 1954, he moved to Chillicothe, Ohio to take a teaching position, a position he held until 1981, retiring after 47 years of teaching. While at Chillicothe he held positions as Dean of Boys and Guidance Counselor.

In 1956, he became the head track coach at Chillicothe High School, a position he held until 1981. He started the Cavalier Club Invitational in 1961 and introduced the cross county program to CHS in 1963. In 1973, he was inducted into the Ohio Track & Cross Country Association Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the Inaugural Class of the Chillicothe High School Hall of Fame.

In 1998, the CHS Track was named in honor of him and his son Phil, who followed Robert as Head Track Coach. While at Chillicothe, Mr. Bobo was the recipient of the Educator Emeritus from the Chillicothe Educational Association. He also worked with the City Recreation Programs for several years.

Mr. Bobo was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, September 13, 2013, in the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Jim Lusher officiating.

Burial will follow on Saturday, September 14th, 2013 at 11 a.m. in Shade Methodist Cemetery, Athens County.

Friends may call at the WARE FUNERAL HOME from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests, memorial contributions be made to the Chillicothe Cavalier Club Track/Field Renovations, 2710 S.
