Burton Almond, age 70, of Chamberlain and formerly of Huron, died Thursday, September 5, 2013, at Avera McKennan Hospital at Sioux Falls. His memorial service will be at 10 AM, Monday, September 9th at the Kuhler Funeral Home, with Rev. Mark Sargent, officiating. Burial will be at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with military honors by the Huron Veterans Council. There will be no visitation.

Burton Dale Almond was born January 13, 1943, to Earl and Glee (Dague) Almond at Huron. He grew up at Huron and graduated from Huron High School. On January 27, 1961, Burton joined the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged on December 2, 1968. On July 3, 1963, Burton married Carol Frost in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan. She died on June 29, 1969.

On December 14, 1974, Burton married Robynn Dawn Thompson in Huron, South Dakota.

Over the years, Burton and family lived in Alexandria, Louisiana, Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Sartell, Minnesota, and Chamberlain, South Dakota.

Burton worked for General Motors and retired from Chicago North Western Railroad after 25 years as an instructor, conductor, and brakeman. He enjoyed cooking, golfing, hunting and fishing. Burton also had passions for singing and playing the piano.

He was preceded into death by his parents, Earl Franklin and Mildred Glee (Dague) Almond, his wives, Carol Sue Almond and Robynn Dawn Almond; two siblings, Smokey Almond and Robert Almond; two nephews, Derek Schelle and Anthony Almond; and one niece, Jolee Greshke.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his three sons, Jimmie Burton (Sherrell) Almond of Minot, North Dakota, Richard Earl (Anna) Almond of Keller, Texas, and Joey Lee Almond of Ankney, Iowa; six grandchildren, Jeremy (Crystal) Almond, Alyssa (Adam) Cool, Britney Almond, Faith Almond, Olivia Almond, and Joseph Almond; three great-grandchildren Jaxton Cool, Mary Almond, and Beckett Cool; brothers and sisters, Doug (Linda) Almond of Denton, Texas, Gleva (Jim) Horning of Priest Lake, Idaho, Delton (Kay) Almond of Alliance Nebraska, Norman (Debbie) Almond of Alliance, Nebraska, Glenda (Randy) Hecht of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Carol (Bruce) Lake of Pukwana, South Dakota, Rocky (Lonnie) Almond of Grand Island, Nebraska, and Teresa (Dave) Schelle of Chamberlain, South Dakota; two sisters-in-law, Judy Almond Stone of West Covina, California and June Almond of Maryville, Tennessee; and many nieces and nephews.
