Author, Writer. As a young adult, McCulley tried various vocations, including serving as an U. S. Army public affairs officer during World War I, but eventually settled into journalism. As his writing career expanded, he became a prolific author of pulp fiction, with many of his works transferring to both motion picture film and television. McCulley is most noted for his creation of the famed character, "Zorro."
