WARDROPE, A. Roger, Milford, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2009, with his family by his side, in Colchester Regional Hospital in Truro, in his 84th year.

Born in Gull Lake, Sask., on December 12, 1925, Roger was the son of the late Chester and Flora (Goff) Wardrope. Roger proudly served as a North Nova Scotia Highlander "A" Company and endured nine months as a POW and survived the death march from France to Germany. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator at National Gypsum and later went back to school and took his Burner Service Technician. He was involved in the Boy Scout movement and the Milford Volunteer Fire Department and a 61 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 48, Elmsdale.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jennie (Geddes); sons, Ralph (Jocelyn), Milford; Steven (Florence), Antigonish; Ross, Porter's Lake; daughters, Debbie, Enfield; Dawn Ann (Gary) Proctor, River Herbert; Jenny Lynn (Frank) Woodworth, Milford; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and sister, Edna Blaikie, Truro; brother-in-law, Leonard Ripley, Ottawa, and daughter-in-law, Edna Wardrope, Kennetcook.

Roger was predeceased by his sisters, Hilda Lumsden, Hazel Ripley, Mildred Wardrope and grandson, Trevor Ettinger and granddaughter, Tanya Proctor.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with a Legion Service at 7 p.m. today; funeral service 2 p.m. Thursday, April 9, all in Milford-Lantz United Church, Milford, Rev. Helen Waddell officiating. A reception to follow in the church basement. Interment will be held at a later date.
