Eugene J. Kabat, age 87, a resident of the Gardens at Felician Village, Manitowoc, formerly of 1687 Atlanta Circle, Manitowoc, entered eternal life Friday evening, August 16, 2013 at St. Mary's Home.

Gene was born May 2, 1926 at Reedsville, Wisconsin. He was the son of the late John and Marie Nenahlo Kabat. After high school Gene served with the Unites States Army and was honorably discharged in June 1949. For 46 years Gene worked in the Manitowoc area as a mechanic, service manager, and body shop manager at various automobile dealerships. He also drove cars for Maritime Ford for dealer trades, delivered floral arrangements for the Wild Iris and worked as a bartender for 15 years in the Manitowoc area.

On September 2, 1950 Gene married Lorraine W. Quante at Clarks Mills, Wisconsin.

He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and in previous years Gene was an active member of the former Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he served as an usher and communion distributor for many years. Gene enjoyed playing sheepshead, cribbage, watching all types of sporting events and spending time in his garden.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years: Lorraine; five children: Carol Kabat, Plymouth, WI; Jan Kabat, Green Bay, WI; Paul (Sandy) Kabat, Hortonville, WI; Kay (Jim) Heyduk, Manitowoc, WI; Nancy (Jeff) Mogenson, Kiel, WI; nine grandchildren: Eric Benthien, Miranda Benthien and her fiance' Adam Check, Selena (Michael) Krajnik, Andy Voelker, Kaila Voelker and special friend Rob Boeckman, Nathan (Kelly) Kabat, Larissa Kabat, Joshua Mogenson and special friend Cassandra Alger, Ian Mogenson; one great granddaughter: Katelin Voelker; four step grandchildren: Jamie (Karrie) Heyduk, Chad (Jenny) Heyduk, Juli (Dan) Murphy, Jill (Ken) Polster; six step greatgrandchildren: Katie Heyduk, Laney Heyduk, Anna Heyduk, Samuel Heyduk, McKenna Murphy, Brayden Murphy; two brothers: Norbert (Gertrude) Kabat, New Holstein, WI; Arnold Kabat, Newtonburg; one sister-in-law: Laverne Kabat, Fond du Lac, WI; nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents: John and Marie Kabat; one brother: John Kabat; two sisters-in-law: Gladys Kabat and Alice Kabat.

Funeral services will be held11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Waldo. The Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated by Rev. Dave Pleier, Rev. Daniel Kabat, and Rev. Gerald Foley. Entombment will be at Calvary Mausoleum, Manitowoc. Following the funeral service at church there will be a luncheon for family and friends at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. Relatives and friends may call at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Waldo on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m.
