Harold Heckman, 64, Bloomington, a former teacher at Indian Creek High School, died Monday at the Hospitality House in Bloomington. He was a retired teacher and principal after teaching 42 years in Indiana and Illinois.
A native of Dixon, IL., he was born Oct. 17, 1916 to Luther and Nellie (Hetler) Heckman.
A graduate of the University of Illinois, he received his master's degree from Indiana University. He was a veteran of World War 2, serving with the U. S. Navy at Pearl Harbor. He was a member of the Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Blanche Montgomery Heckman; three daughters, Phyllis Wakeland and Sharon Huter, both of Indianapolis, and Maxine Byers of Bloomington; a son Samuel Heckman of Indianapolis; three sisters, Avis Reyes of Florida; Lois Weatherwax of Wisconsin and Helen Templeton of Missouri; a brother, Donald Heckman of West Palm Beach, Fla.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandcildren.
The Rev. Robert Voehl will conduct a funeral service Friday at 10 a.m. in the Day Mortuary in Bloomington where friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today, Burial will be at Valhalla Memory Gardens with full military honors.
