Carl Randolph Gunter, 88, of 232 John Redd Blvd. Collinsville, VA passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at his home. Mr. Gunter was born April 23, 1925 in Pulaski County, VA to the late Hobart Walker Gunter and Gertie Mae Fariss Gunter. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, E. Claude Shockley and William Sprouse and his grandmother, Minerva Fariss who was like a mother, where he spent most of his time.

After graduating from Draper High School Carl was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II where he served in the 144th Coast Artillery, 10th Army and visited places such as the Panama Canal, Hawaii. New Caledonia, Guadalcanal, Eniwetok, Ulithi and Okinawa, Mr. Gunter retired from E.I. Dupont, Inc. where he worked as a Technical Assistant. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Collinsville and a volunteer fireman at Collinsville Volunteer Fire Department. He also enjoyed flatfoot and square dancing with his lovely wife. One of his favorite pastimes was spending time with his two grandchildren.

Surviving is his loving wife of 67 years, Clydie Quesenberry Gunter; two daughters, Marietta Harmon and fiancée, Pete Aheron of Bassett, VA and Deborah Treherne and husband, Buck of Clifton, VA and two grandchildren, Karen Harmon and Paul Harmon.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 7, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Collinsville with Pastor Larry Cheek and Pastor Mark Ivey officiating. Interment will be at Roselawn Burial Park, Martinsville, VA. Visitation will be Friday, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the church and other times at the home.
