Dorothy Ann (D.A.) Shafer, 75, passed away August 13, 2005 in Alvarado.
She was born October 3, 1929 in Gatesville and her parents were Jim and Jewel Bone Brookshire. She graduated from Evant in 1948 and married Daniel Lloyd (Dan) Shafer later that year in Dallas. Dan preceded her in death in 1992, also her oldest son, James Lloyd, who was murdered in Fort Worth in 1986. Her brother, James Frank (Cowboy) Brookshire, died in 2001 in Rhode Island.
D.A. belonged to the First Methodist Church in Alvarado. She and Dan moved their family from Fort Worth to Alvarado in the early 1960’s after they built their new home on their farm. She was a homemaker and a farmer, she loved working with her cows. She stayed active all her life until Alzheimers began to slow her down several years ago and finally won that battle over her. But she has gone to her home in heaven that James Lloyd has surrounded with his beloved rose gardens. So now she can walk in that beautiful garden with God and all those loved ones that were up there waiting for her. She is in a much better place now where there is no more pain or sorrow, only heavenly joy.
D.A. is survived by two sons, Bobby Lee and Alan Leonard of Alvarado; three daughters, Mary Margaret (Sissy) Woolard and Lisa and husband, David Yawn, both of Alvarado and Jody and husband, Jeff Stockton of Burleson; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A sister, Mary Lou Schafrick of Fort Worth, also survives.

Funeral services were held August 16 in Alvarado with burial in Bethany Rest Cemetery near Alvarado. Pallbearers were Bobby Shafer, Alan Shafer, Keith Woolard, Jim Woolard, Jeff Stockton and Bobby Brookshire.
“Once there were three and now there’s just me. Our rambling days on earth are over but I do have my memories. When I get to heaven we can ramble thru your rose gardens. Goodbye, sister and best friend, ‘til we meet again. I love you,” by Mary Lou Schafrick.
