Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.in. in the Meyer-Denny Funeral Home in Murphysboro for Clarence Richard Thurman, 54-year-old Gorham man killed in a train-truck collision Saturday.

Mr. Thurman was killed in an accident on the Missouri-Pacific Railroad crossing in Cora Saturday morning. Mr. Thurman was the engineer on a Missouri-Pacific freight train which collided with a tractor-trailer truck driven by Terry McEvers, 24, of Herrin, who was treated at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro for major injuries.

Mr. Thurman was born July 12, 1916, in Gorham, the son of Harrison and Magnolia Kenon Thurman. He was married Nov. 26, 1937, in Sikeston, Mo., to Lucille Crain.

He was an engineer for the Missouri-Pacific Railroad. Mr. Thurman was a veteran of United States Air Force service in World War II, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Murphysboro. He was also a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers union.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Thomas Shields of Belleville; a son, Richard of Gorham; grandchildren, Chris and Tina Shields of Belleville; and a sister, Mrs. Velma Miller of Pontiac, Mich.
