John Thomas Brown was a 9-year-old boy who tragically lost his life in the early morning hours of Saturday June 19, 1937. John and his 10-year-old brother went swimming in an abandoned water-filled quarry in his hometown of Keokuk, Iowa and, sadly, John drowned at about 6:30 a.m. The two boys had left home before their parents were awake, and their early morning swimming excursion ended in tragedy. John's older brother returned home with John's clothes to alert their parents. John was the second boy to drown in the same quarry pit within a span of two months.
