Irvin Dewey Williams is actually Irvin Dewey Puffer. He took the name Williams from his adoptive parents Ira and Viola Williams. He led a very troubled life. His birth parents abandoned him and his sisters. They were placed in an orphan's home in 1908, then in foster care with the Williams', from which they ran away. Captured in Waverly, Iowa while begging money on the streets. In 1915 he was an inmate at the Industrial School for Boys in Eldora, IA. In 1922 he was convicted of larceny and sentenced to 5 years in prison. Evidently he did his time and got his life together, marrying Viva Mae Legg on 12 Aug 1919 in Charles City, IA (Iowa County Marriages). They must have divorced while he was in prison. He remarried in 1939 to Enola H. Waterman, in Council Bluffs, IA. He and Viva had Robert Wayne Puffer.
