During WWII Roy enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from March 1944 to May 1946, as a F C 3 (Fire Controlmen) aboard the USS Vicksburg in the Pacific Theater. The Vicksburg was a Cleveland-class Light cruiser and was involved in task force shore bombardment at Iwo Jima and Okinawa, and other naval engagements in the East China Sea.
Roy returned to York County and worked for 28 year for Green's Dairy in the shipping and receiving department. He retired June 3, 1989 after 28 years of service.
In the community Roy was a life member of Shiloh Fire Co. and a member for 16 years of the Industrial Management Club. He was also a member of Shiloh American Legion Post 791, Viking Athletic Association and of Shiloh United Church of Christ.
Roy leaves his wife, Arlene M Smith Nogle; two sons, Lynn E Nogle and Jay A. Nogle, both of Shiloh; two grandchildren; three brothers, Marlin C. Nogle, St. Petersburg, Fla.; Ralph C. Nogle Shiloh, and Robert L. Nogle, Wei gelstown; two sisters, Jeanette D Botterbusch and Eileen E. Dellinger, both of Shiloh; and severa nephews and nieces.
Viewing occurred at LeRoy R. Leber Funeral Home in Shiloh, and a service was held the following day. Burial was made in Shiloh Cemetery.
