Pre college he played guard for the Penn Five Club - which was not associated with the high school - and for the University of Pittsburgh (1928-31) for the last three years of his studies there. In 1932 Doc first set up an office on the 2nd floor of a building at 8th & Main street in Sharpsburg and practiced there before having an office built at 6th & Main street.
Doc served in the Army Air Forces in WWII as a dentist stationed at Smyrna Air Force Base in Tennessee. Dr. Arture and his wife Ethel L. Smith resided in Hampton, PA before moving to Venice, Fla to retire. He retired in 1977. They lived in Florida for 13 years. When Ethel was diagnosed with Dementia they moved back to Sharpsburg, PA. Ethel passed away 7 weeks & 2 days before Doc. He died at 87 years old at Forbes Nursing Center in Larimer of Alzheimer's disease.
