Kathryn "Kat" Woods:


Kathryn "Kat" Woods was born on Oct. 2, 1922, to Simon Burnet and Amanda Elizabeth Burnet (Sims) in Walker County. Kat passed away on Dec. 9, 2009, in Huntsville. She was 87.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lewis E. Woods; daughter, Arla Mae Woods; and sister, Grace Ready. Kat is survived by her two children, Wilburn L. Woods and Peggy Burnett; grandsons, Connor Woods and Jim Woods; two great-grandchildren, Katelyn Winfrey and Colton Woods; sister, Dorothy Turner; and special friend and companion, Virgil "Blue" Bruce. Other special friends are Lou Ella McGowan, Joyce O'Bryant, Cassie O'Bryan and Shay Samuels; as well as numerous other nieces and nephews.

Kat retired from ASCS in the mid-80s after working more than 30 years. She played the piano and sang every Sunday since she was 16 at Farris Chapel United Methodist Church. Kat also played the piano at Bays Chapel Methodist Church as well as for countless other weddings, and various events.

Kat loved fishing, dancing, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Kat always had a hot meal cooked and persisted that you eat. She will be missed by all that knew her.

Services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, at 10 a.m. at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville with the Rev. Reagan Cooksey officiating. The burial will follow at Farris Cemetery in West Sandy. The family will receive friends Monday, Dec. 14, 2009, from 6-8 p.m. at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville.
