PALM SPRINGS, CA -- Amalia `Molly` Panza Caringi, 89, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, January 9th in Palm Springs. Born in Mechanicville, May 8, 1910, she was wife of the late Ernest J. Caringi, Sr. who died in 1983. In 1936, Molly and her husband built and operated the `The Saddle Inn and later in 1940 purchased and operated the `White Sulpher Springs Hotel` both on Saratoga Lake. In the 1940's and early 50's they operated `Browns Beach` and `Riley's Lake House`, both on Saratoga Lake. In 1955, Molly and Ernie operated `Panza's Lazy Susan` Supper Club in Hollywood, CA. It was successful for nearly 25 years and a very popular night and dining spot for many of Hollywood's screen and recording elite. Molly was very active in charitable institutions during her life in Hollywood and Palm Springs. She was a member of the `Motion Picture Mother's` the` Screen Smart Set` and `The Masqueretts` the women's auxiliary of the famous actors club `The Masquer's Club` in Hollywood. In 1963, Walter Winchell dedicated a column in the `NY Daily Mirror` to Molly and Ernie and their son actor/producer, Steve Drexel. Winchell also commented on how Molly fed `on the cuff` a lot of fledging actors and actresses, who later became stars. Survivors include her son, Ernest J. Caringi, Jr, AKA, Steve Drexel of Quartz Hill, CA; and two sisters, Mary Liberti of Palm Desert, CA and Cecelia Panza of Saratoga Lake.
