LOCUST GROVE - Doris Jean Compton Emmott, 76, of Locust Grove, Va., departed this life Aug. 18, 2005, in Culpepper, Va. She was born in Falls Mills, Va., to Henry Bane Compton and Sue Blanch Compton. She graduated from Elizabeth Buxton Hospital in 1949 and received a scholarship to Duke University in nursing education. She was an intensive care nurse and associate director at the University of Virginia Hospital during her career. Teaching positions included Elizabeth Buxton Hospital, Hampton General Hospital, King's Daughter's Hospital and the Mayo Clinic. She was a member of the Elizabeth Buxton Nurses Alumni Association, the Lake of the Woods Optimist Club and the Lake of the Woods Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Dr. Gratton Alexander Litz III. She is survived by her husband, George Robert Emmott; two siblings, Delilah Glass and Charles Compton; two children, retired Capt. Charles Henry Litz, USN, and Kimberly Litz Brann; four stepchildren, Mark Emmott, Robert Emmott, Doug Yohe and Ben Yohe; and eight grandchildren, Rodney Yohe, Morgan Litz, Alex Litz, Maggie Brann, John Brann, Katherine Brann, Kendall Emmott and Marcus Emmott. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22, at the Dudley Memorial Chapel in Bluefield, Va., with the Rev. Raymond Klaiber officiating. Burial will follow in the Harry Cemetery in Falls Mills. Friends may call Monday from 10 a.m. until the hour of service. There will be no visitation on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Gratton Alexander Litz III award for internal medicine at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. Checks can be made payable to the UVA Medical School Foundation, University of Virginia, Health System Development Office, P.O. Box 800773, Charlottesville, VA 22908-0773 Attn: Jeff Moster. Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield is in charge of the arrangements.
