Barry Thomas Patrick McCullough, age 70, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2013 at Heartland Hospice. He was born on May 12, 1943 to Chester and Marie (Young) McCullough. Barry graduated from Holy Cross High School (1961) and then attended and graduated from Saint Joseph's University (1966). In college, he was a member of ROTC and after graduation entered the Air Force as a 2nd lieutenant. Barry served in Germany and then in Vietnam (EOD) where he received many decorations including the Bronze Star. He then became a nuclear weapons training officer in Albuquerque, NM. Barry left the Air Force in 1979, after attaining the rank of Captain to join the United States Secret Service. He worked as a senior physical security specialist and retired from the Secret Service in 2001.

Barry was married to Teresa (Reynolds) McCullough for 34 years who preceded him in death. He then married his current wife Barbara (Gallo) McCullough in 2009.

Barry was a detailed story teller, enjoyed music and singing in a choir, had a keen sense of humor (enjoyed playing with children and silly string) and loved anything Irish (including his imaginary leprechaun, Shawn and Irish Mist). He enjoyed the challenge of the stock market, finances and taxes. Barry was a good, hard working man with integrity and courage and continuous pride in serving his country.

Barry is survived by his loving wife, Barbara McCullough, who devotedly cared for him during the past 18 months of his failing health; his siblings, Gerry Burr, Mike McCullough and Patty McCullough; step children, Susan Pacheco and Steven Bailey; nieces and nephews, Brenda, Jody, Bevin, Megan, Matthew, Christopher and Amy; step-grandchildren, Amber, Kelsey and Zachary; and great nieces and nephews, Kay-Leigh, Krystelle, Kieran, Teddi-Anne, Delilah, Emily, Matthew and Michael. A visitation will be held Thursday, September 5th, 2013 at 11am at Saint Joseph's Church, 371 E. Main Street, Middletown, DE 19709 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12pm. Internment will be at Delaware Veteran's Memorial (New Castle County Cemetery) at 2pm. A reception at Saint Joseph's church will follow. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th fl., New York, NY 10001 or the American Cancer Society , 92 Reads Way Ste. 205, New Castle, DE 19720.
