Donald Gene Wallis, 82 of Independence, MO, passed away, Sunday, September 1, 2013 at Centerpoint Medical Center. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 5, 2013 followed by Services at 7:00 p.m., Thursday evening at the Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Private graveside services will be in Longview Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made in his name to American Cancer Society . Donald was born March 15, 1931 in Lonsdale, Arkansas to Leslie Lewis and Pearl (Carden) Wallis. He had worked as a civil engineer for over 33 years for Missouri Pacific and later Union Pacific until his retirement in 1986. He proudly served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a devoted husband and father who enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a member of the Retired Railroad Association and the NRA. He was also a member of the 10-mile Baptist Church in Lonsdale, AR. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Marilyn of the home; 3 daughters, Donna K. Ambro of Independence, MO, Mona Williams and her husband Jimi of Lee's Summit, MO and Theresa Corwin and her husband David of Blue Springs, MO; 6 grandchildren, Jeremy, Andy, Amber, Ashley, Heather and Melissa, and 7 great grandchildren which he thought the world of. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Leslie C. and Kenneth Wallis, and a son-in- law John Ambro in 2006.
