Solomon moved with his father to what is now Clay County, where he grew to manhood and married Sarah "Sally" Neal (1836-1899), daughter of Jeremiah and Margaret "Peggy" Brown Neal. Solomon enlisted in the Union Army on August 15, 1864, two weeks after his father was captured by southern soldiers and sent to Andersonville.
Solomon was a prominent man in the county, and was twice sheriff of the county around the 1870s. His family consisted of Jeremiah, William James, Hansford, Margaret, and Emma.
Solomon died in 1916 from heart disease.
