SHERMAN - Robert Louis Fienning, 87 ½, of Sherman, Texas died on August 28, 2005.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September, 10, 2005 at Grand Avenue Presbyterian Church. Reverend Lander Bethel will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Dannel Funeral Home.
Bob was born December 25, 1917 in Richmond, Indiana, the ninth of 10 children born to George Henry Fienning and Frances Charlotte Fienning. His mother died when he was an infant. George married Sophia Fredericka Fienning, who became mother to the large family. Surviving siblings are: older brother, Edward Fienning of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina; and younger brother, Rudolph Fienning of Muncie, Indiana. He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. Bob was also preceded in death by his grandson, Walter Robert Minaya.
Robert was a graduate of Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana; his graduate studies included petroleum geology at the University of Cincinnati and a Master's in Palynology at East Texas State in Commerce, Texas.
Bob worked extensively as a consulting petroleum geologist in the Oklahoma oil fields. Following his many years in Oklahoma, he moved to Sherman to work in the Development Office at Austin College. He then completed his working career as an educator at Eastfield Community College in Dallas.
He was a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, and as a lover of nature, he enjoyed his membership in the Texoma Rockhounds and the Outdoor Club. Bob was a Life Boy Scout and was a Scout leader for many years.
Robert was a member of the Grand Avenue Presbyterian Church; through his years he was active in all areas of the Presbyterian Church. He was a deacon, representative to the Presbytery and to the General Assembly. He traveled extensively to Native American Reservations in the Southwest on the behalf of Oklahoma Presbyterian College.
He is survived by his wife, Rosamond Davidson Fienning; one son, David and his wife, Brenda of Bixby, Oklahoma; daughter, Dana Minaya and husband, Frank of New York, New York; and daughter, Robbie Blystone and husband, John of Sherman. Grandchildren are Tracy Robertson of Jenkins, Oklahoma, Brooke Fienning of Naperville, Illinois, Matthew Blystone of Sherman, John David Blystone of San Marcos, Texas and Gregory Minaya of New York, N.Y. Also, surviving are three great-granddaughters.
The family deeply appreciates the dedicated service of Bob's caregivers while he was in need of their care.
Robert's cremains will be buried at Lutherania Cemetery in Richmond, Indiana
