Spec 4 Thomas Carpenter Jr


Funeral services for Spec 4 Thomas Carpenter Jr., 21, who was killed in action January 11 from fragment wounds sustained in Vietnam, will be Sunday at 1:30 pm from the First African Baptist Church with the Rev J.E. DeGraffenried officiating. Burial will be in the West Highland Cemetery with Van Hoose - Freeman and Mauldin Funeral Home in charge.

He was working on a military aircraft maintenance area when the area came under small arms fire and mortar attack from the enemy.

Spec 4 Carpenter had been in the Army for a year and in Vietnam since August 1967. He was a graduate of Druid High School.

Survivors include his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas W. Carpenter St of Tuscaloosa, four sisters, Ola Mae Carpenter, Queen Esta Carpenter, Bernice Carpenter Barnes and Ethel Mae Carpenter; two brothers, Frank James and Henry Earl Carpenter.

Active pallbearers will be military personnel.
