Our late brother, Horace Austin Thomas , was born July 18, 1941 to Raymond David and Hazel Azelle Thomas in Prescott, Arkansas. He was the oldest of four children.

As his family moved to follow the oil industry, he was educated in the public school systems in the South and Southwest, graduating from Farmington, New Mexico in 1959. He joined the U.S. Navy that same year and served two years before being medically discharged. He married Billie Jean Inman of Grand Junction, Colorado December 21, 1960 after knowing her for only 11 days. Together, they raised four children. He credits Billie with sustaining his life with love, strength, and devotion.

He medically retired as a letter carrier from the U.S. Post Office in 1973 after 12 distinguished years of service.

Brother Thomas was initiated as Entered Apprentice September 26, 1967, passed to the degree of Fellowcraft November 28, 1967 and rose to the sublime degree of Master Mason March 29, 1968 all in Kaibab Lodge No. 25 where he remained a member until 1989. He sought more light by joining the York Rite in 1969. He was created a nobel of El Kalah Temple Ancient Arabic Order Nobels of the Mystic Shrine in 1971 and was a member of the Scottish Rite from 1975-1983. He served a Worshipful Master of Kaibab Lodge in 1975 and continued his service as their Secretary from 1982-1987. Brother Thomas was the Commander of Utah Commandery No. 1 in 1978; Illustrious Master for Utah Council No. 1 in 1982; and High Priest of Utah Chapter No. 1 in 1983. From 1970-1992, Bo served as the York Rite costume master. He served in the Grand Commandery of Utah as the Grand Secretary of that Body from 1993-1997, was the Prelate for one year, and was Editor of the State Supplement for several years. He was a charter member of the Past Masters Club in the Shrine. He was also served for several years as the advisor for the Utah State Priory, a Masonic Youth group for your men between the ages of 18-21. In 1989, he relocated his Blue lodge membership to Bonneville Lodge No. 31 serving as secretary from 1990-1998 and 2001-2002. Brother Thomas' Masonic award are many including the Hiram Award, Grand Chapter Nights Templar Distingusihed Service Award, the Night Templar Cross of Honor, and the DeMolay Legionnaire award. He was a member of the Mizpah Chapter Order of Eastern Star and the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem. Additionally, he belonged to all appendant bodies of the York Rite. He was a member of the Bonneville Conclave Red Cross of Constantine and served a Secretary of Utah Chapter of ARS Quatour Coronati, an English Research Lodge.

Bo asked that he be remembered with love for the Masonic Institution. He was proud to be part of an organization that received him when he asked to join to make himself a better person.

Bo passed away Friday, December 26, 2003 at the age of 62. He is survived by his wife, Bille Jean; his mother, Hazel Azelle of Linden, Texas; four children, Raymond David (Jill) from Woodbury TN, Richard Austin (Holly) of Elk Grove, CA, Pamela LaDawn (Anthony Gordon) of Chicago, IL, and Robert Loren (Melony) of Salt Lake City, UT; 10 grandchildren, Nicole, Rebeccah, Aspen, Autumn, Lucas, Zachary, Katie, Jessica, Michael, and Jackson; three sisters, Ramona Lee Stratton, (Dave), Ogden, UT, Molly Joan Thompson, (Ray, deceased) Grand Junction, CO, and Georgia Ann Martin, (Leif) Huntsville, AL; numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Raymond David Thomas of Linden, Texas.

Services will be held Wednesday Dec. 31, at 12 noon at the Evans & Early Mortuary 574 East 100 South. Viewing will be held Tuesday evening from 6-8 P.M. at the Mortuary and one hour prior to services on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be make to the Knight Templar Eye Foundation.

To these bereaved the Officers and members of Bonneville Lodge No. 31 offer their heartfelt sympathy and condolences. This funeral service is being held by Bonneville Lodge No. 31 F.& A.M. on this 31 st day of December, 2003. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Sandy.
