He died of wounds after being shot near Dranesville , Virginia during the Civil War.
Samuel was the husband of Mary Louise Noblet and the son of James Alexander and Ann Lewis.

Samuel was wounded on a reconnaissance mission to Dranesville, Fairfax, Virginia. ( Battle of Dranesville, 20 Dec. 1861) He was with The Pennsylvania Volunteers. He died, 29 Nov 1861, from his wounds at Camp Pierpoint, Wayne County, Virginia ( now West Virginia) Samuel Lewis Alexander was born 1834 in Penns Valley, Centre County, Pennsylvania. He has a daughter Mary buried with him. No further information on her. No wife is buried here. Per cemetery staff they were most likely were transferred to Wilmington & Brandywine from another cemetery which is not named in their records. Information is from a staff member who viewed the stone and searched the records with appreciation
