Dewey Byrd, 94, of Route 1, Huntsville, passed away Wednesday morning, February 17, 1993, at his home. He was the son of the late Zachriah Byrd and the late Acynith Marcum Byrd and was also preceded in death by his first wife, Elma Rector Byrd; his second wife, Gertie Coker Byrd; and twelve brothers and sisters. He was a member of the White Rock Baptist Church and was retired from the Plateau Electric Cooperative. . Mr. Byrd is survived by one daughter, Leela Byrd Cross and husband Herstle of Huntsville; one son, Johnny Byrd and wife Patricia of Nashville; one brother, Delus Byrd of Helenwood; six grandchildren, Lisa Jane Gotleib of Ft. Worth, Tx., Nancy Rogers of Ft. Myers, Fla., Herstle Cross, Jr. of Houston, Tex., Teri Sullivan of Nashville, Kimberly Hodges and Michael Byrd, also of Nashville; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 20, at the West-Murley Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Jim West and Rev. Leon Mayo officiating. Nancy Murley sang. Burial was in the Rector Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were: Jerry Willard Thompson, Herbert Chambers, James Potter, Randy Cox, Edson Jeffers, Benji Rector, Jerry Murley, and Obis Byrd.
