He was born on June 3, 1925 in Portsmouth, Ohio the son of Joseph and Wilda (McFarland) Henson.
He served our country in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the Northridge Vineyard Church, Volunteer of S.O.O.P. (Service Opportunity for Older People), S.O.W.E.R.S. (Servants ON Wheels Every Ready), C.A.P. (Christian Appalachian Project), Right to Life, Friends of Tabasaran, and the Emmaus Community.
Joe retired from Goodyear Atomic Corporation after thirty years and was an avid golfer and later in life worked at the Reid Golf Course.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Lee (Boyer) Hawke Henson of twenty-two years; daughter, Mary Helen (Thomas) Peach of Portsmouth, three sons: Joseph M. (Cathy) Henson Jr. of North Canton, Patrick T. (Kathy) Henson of Palm Bay, Florida, and Christopher J. (Teresa) Henson of Clifton, Virginia; four step-sons: Kevin (Lynn) Hawke of Springfield, Daniel (Julie) Hawke of Marion, Kerry (Arlene) Hawke of Springfield, and Matthew (Jenni) Hawke of DeGraff; twelve grandchildren, nine step grandchildren, six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sister: Jack, Andy, Steven, Peter, and Mary Lumbard; and his first wife Rose E. (July) Henson.
