Don was the son of Burt Lancaster and Anna Leona Rider, and had a brother Gwin and a son Roger to precede him in death. Surviving were his wife, five sons, and a sister. Three stepsons also survive. Don enlisted in the Marine Corp and went to boot camp at MCRD San Diego. Upon graduation he went to El Centro, California for Aviation School to serve with VMF 543 2nd MAW for duty in Okinawa during the campaign to retake the territory. He saw limited duty in the Philippine Islands, while aboard a pocket aircraft carrier, before going on to Okinawa. After the war, Gerald was sent to Acura, Japan for occupation duty. He returned to the States to Mir mar in San Diego. Gerald was proud of his descent from Cherokee Peacemaker, Nancy Ward, and was a member of the Association of the Descendants of Nancy Ward. Gerald's memorial service was with full military honors held at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery.
