She was born on November 20, 1919, in Pineville, WV, to the late Roy Rucker Vance (1900-1963) and Etta J. Akers-Vance (1901-1967).
When her son enlisted into the Marines, Juanita went back to school and earned her nursing degree. She worked for five years at Beckley Hospital and then went into private nursing, worked in Raleigh and Fayette counties for twenty years before retiring. Juanita was a woman of God and attended Sophia Freewill Baptist and Eccles Baptist Church. She would always say that she could not wait to go to Heaven to see the Lord and her family whom she missed every day.
Those who knew Juanita would say that she was just an ole country girl who got married, was devoted to her family, enjoyed talking and reading about gospel, and always knew exactly whom in your family you looked like. We cherish her memory and will keep her in our hearts always.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, John Ulen Hunt Sr. (1915-Deceased) whom she married on August 29, 1936 in Beckley, Raleigh County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Raleigh County, WV, 1936, Page 207, Application Date: August 29, 1936); her second husband, Reverend Doff Harvey (Deceased); a son John Ulen "J.U." Hunt, Jr. (1937-2009); sisters, Eula M. Vance-Wood (1922-1987) and Gloria Vance-Kirk (1925-2012); and a brother, Roy J. "Sonny" Vance (1938-1980).
Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Ann Hunt; grandchildren, Sherri Hunt, Kim Hunt, and Becky Blevins and her husband Preston; great-grandchildren, Rebekah Blevins and Keith Blevins; sister-in-law, Angie Vance; nephew, Michael Vance; niece, Krispy Conner and her husband Andy; and a host of cousins that hold a special place in her heart.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Juanita will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, September 1, 2013, at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Chapel in Beckley with Pastor Mark Spence officiating. Interment will follow at the Coal City Community Cemetery.
