Hartman
John Hartman, son of John Hartman, Sr. and Cathrinlis, nee Appel, was born near Lawrence, Kansas, March 13, 1881. Shortly after his birth he was offered to the Lord for regeneration by baptism.
In 1887 he came with his parents to this country and they settled down on a farm near Otis. Here he spent his time helping with the farm work. He received his religious instructions at the Lutheran Church of this place and was confirmed there Oct. 4, 1896 by Rev. Senkenisen, with a class of six.
June 15, 1904, he was married to Katherine Wuertz of Schaffer. This union was blessed with 4 children; 3 girls and 1 boy, who survive their father and mourn his untimely departure.
In 1919 he moved from here to a farm near Nekoma, where he lived until the time of his death. A few months ago he took sick and was removed to the hospital at LaCrosse. His trouble is given as pulmonary abscess. Neither medicine nor an operation could bring the desired relief till on the 19th day of February God himself delivered him from all his earthly woe. His days in this life are 45 years, 11 months, and 6 days.
He is survived by his faithful wife, his 4 children, his old parents, 4 brothers and 3 sisters. May he have reached his good goal - to be with the Lord - for which he earnestly prayed.
Funeral services were held Feb. 21 at the Lutheran Church of Otis and the cemetery west of town. Rev. Lehmann officiated at the services. May the Lord now be protector of the widow and the father of the children.
