CARTERVILLE - David Cheatham, 66, died Thursday, April 17, 2008, at his home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2008, in Riggin-Pillatsch Funeral Home in Carterville, with the Rev. Donnie Colson and the Rev. Brent Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will be in Blairsville Cemetery. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Sunday, April 20, 2008, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

David was born Nov. 23, 1941, in Herrin, to William Earl and Myrtle (Carter) Cheatham. He married Norma Morris on Jan. 5, 1960, in Cambria.

He is survived by his wife, Norma Cheatham of Carterville; two sons, Kevin Cheatham and fiancée, Kristal, of Carterville and Ricky Cheatham and fiancée, Robyn, of Carterville; six granddaughters, Chassidy, Kimberly, Lauren, Kayce, JoLee and Kristie Cheatham; three grandsons, Cody, Kenny and Andrew James Cheatham; three great-grandchildren; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Marie Johns, Mary Russell and Dorothy and Junior Burks, all of Herrin; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Willie and Wanda Cheatham of Plumfield, Leroy and Paulette Cheatham of Spillertown and Mary Cheatham of Herrin; two brothers-in-law and their wives, Leon and Marilyn Morris of Lake of Egypt and Dale and Johna Morris of Carterville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Paul and Kenneth Cheatham.

David retired in 2004 after 42 years of service as a controlman in the porcelain department at Maytag in Herrin. He also was a farmer, who, with his brother Paul, farmed over 1,200 acres of farm land. He was a member of Bryan Street Baptist Church in Herrin. David enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting and being outdoors, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew him.
