Virginia Coleman Bowen Powell, 82, widow of Dennis Powell and Harold "PeeWee" Bowen, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, at a local nursing facility.

Born in Sumter, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Ivey Coleman Sr. and the late Rhoda Mae Hickson Coleman. Mrs. Powell was a member of Sumter First Church of the Nazarene. She was the operator of the Crescent Mobile Home Park.

Survivors include two sons, Donald L. Bowen (Lynn) and Johnny L. Bowen (Debbie) Both of Sumter; six brothers, Billy Coleman, James "Jim" Coleman, Jessie "Jack" Coleman, and LeLand "Roy" Coleman all of Sumter, and Robert "Bob" Coleman and Clarence I. Coleman Jr., both of Columbia; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Kay Branham; a son, Ronald L. Bowen; and a brother, Marion "Buck" Coleman.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Sumter First Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Greg Pressley and the Rev. Richard Coleman officiating.

Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

Her brothers will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home.
