Bert E. Hickman, son of Wibourne
and Jane Hickman was born near
Penfield, Ill. March 26, 1878 and
this life September 6, 1955 at the age of
77 years, 5 months and 11 days
On November 30, 1904 he was
united in marriage to Dessa Gootschius.
To this union two sons
were born; Clifford W. who passed
away in 1934 and Charles F.
of Newell. Other survivors are
his wife, Dessa, two grand-children,
James A Hickman of Gibsonburg,
Ohio, and Jane Hickman
of Newell; also one great grandson,
Bradley James; one sister,
Mrs D C. Rife of Storm Lake.
Besides his immediate family, he
leaves a host of near relatives and
friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Hickman spent
the first 10 years of their married
life in Illinois. In 1913 they came
to Newell and famed in this vicinity
until 1946, when they came
into Newell to make their home.
In his youth, Bert became a
member of the United Brethern
Church, but later transferred his
membership to the Methodist
Church. Bert attended church and
took an interest in his church
and community activities as long
as his health would permit.
He was a member of Knight's
of Pithius Lodge. He was a lover
of nature taking great interest
in his farming, gardening and
flowers. One of hs last endeavors
was the planting of Morning
Glory seed shared with him by
a good neighbor and which now
blooms as a memorial to him,
another affirmation of his love
for growing things.
