S. Durward "Steve" Hoag, Class of 1923, Marietta College

Hoag is credited during his term as president of the Marietta City Council as being the person most responsible for the routing of Interstate 77 near Marietta. He served three years as president of the Marietta Chamber of Commerce, was the first recipient of the Marietta Jaycees' Distinguished Citizen Award, and was named Mr. Pioneer Spirit during the city's 175th birthday celebration.
S. Durward Hoag died Oct. 18, 1982, at 81. He is entombed at East Lawn Cemetery. A year before he died, he was honored with a street bearing his name.
The street, S. Durward Hoag Drive, runs in front of the Kmart shopping center, appropriately nestled in the shadow of Interstate 77.
